This is an idea created at the Plantation Masters swim meet on January 23-24, 2011.
This idea will grow slowly and on several leading edges:
- Top priority will go to tools to help the rebuilding of Haiti
which will be shown at Sustainatopia 2011.
Please click to see that Facebook page and please click that you "like" it. It will do important work and needs more fans.
- Our editor for Florida's natural world needs to identify foundational documents.
Think "River of Grass" but also a bigger idea to include all our native flora & fauna.
Think BP Oil Spill and our struggle to preserve and enhance.
- It will require quite a bit of work to implement the Mucky Duck as an on-line interactive application.
Meanwhile we'll use it and will run it for anyone who asks.

We consider competitive aquatic sports to be a critical ingredient of our well-being and also recognize that
70% of the human body is water (on average) and
71% of the planet is covered by water.
This is a convergence that we take as a reminder that stewardship of our bodies and stewardship of the planet are closely related.
We intend to pursue enlightened self interest in becoming advocates on both these fronts. We are committed to making the relationship of our species to water as empowering, as safe, and as enhancing of our lives as it can be.
Possibly there are four (or more) truths that make this compelling:
- Our nation (and our planet) have immense problems related to obesity and fitness. Our sport is immensely relevent to that urgency. Maybe ours is the best sport.
- We have authority to speak to a major concern, that of protecting the resources of our seas, our gulfs, our bays, our lakes, our rivers.
(71% of our planet is covered by water).
- Millions of people on the planet and thousands of people in SE Florida can be helped by what we offer.
- Our primary vehicle will be
social media combined with energetic participation in the activities of our community (aquatics).
We will have a Facebook group page, a Facebook fan page, and a Twitter feed. More will follow.
We adopt as our vision carrier
Lynne Cox
and we recommend for inspiration
Lynne's books , especially
Grayson ,
because of her longstanding intimacy with our watery natural world.
Several people are using social media effectively on swimming subjects.
You can usually get on their distribution lists by clicking "like" or "join" on their Facebook pages:
Ben Christoffel,
Ron Collins,
Terry Laughlin,
Steven Munatones,
Diana Nyad
and
Dara Torres.
We will be the home of
The Mucky Duck and we will develop him as a
training tool & motivational aid .
We are impressed with www.avaaz.org
but puzzled that it does not have a search engine allowing one to search their site. So we created this one.
Type "dolphins", or "coral reefs", or whatever you wish into the box above and click return.
